Thrifty Thursday: Staying Organized

My Thrifty Thursday tip for everyone is along the lines of organization. If you've already begun to use coupons and increase your food storage, you're probably already dealing with trying to keep things organized. It's difficult, I admit. I too find myself continually trying to keep my pantry neat and tidy. Organization is critical though because you need to know what items you're running low on in order to adequately stock up when you find a good sale.
Now, I'm not one who enjoys spending money in an attempt to save money, but when it comes to organization, I think it's occasionally necessary. By all means, use what you have to make it work, but if you have to purchase a few key items that will help (and if it's in the budget) do it! There are a variety of handy items that you can use to keep your food organized. Each of us have different spaces we're working with- some have large homes while others have small apartments. I encourage you to figure out what works for you and strive to stay organized! Here are a few items I have that really help me out:
My pantry is large, but awkward as it's located under my stairs! We had a black wire cube-shelf thing that I was able to adjust to fit nicely.
I love lazy susan's! I have them in my big corner cabinets as well as here, in my spice cabinet. I credit my mother-in-law with these as they were her idea to get, several years ago when my husband and I were newly married and living in a 900 sq ft apartment! You can get them in all sizes at Walmart!

This is my baby! My husband realized the canned goods I was acquiring would soon take over our bedroom if I didn't get something to contain them. We purchased this Harvest can organizer from Shelf Reliance while they were doing a roadshow at Costco. It's the best price I've seen so far! It's an investment for sure, but very worth it!

How do you keep your pantry organized? I would love to hear tips you all have to share!

I've taken an inventory of what is in my pantry and the quantity and put it into an Excel worksheet. It is taped to the inside of the door and when I take from or add to I put the new number into the spreadsheet. It sounds like alot of work but it really only took me about 30 minutes to do and now I can see exactly what I have and what I'm low on.

My storage room is under the stairs too- my Mister build a set of shelves on one side, and on the other we have some canned food holders that fit inside the wall between studs. They're really nice, and make more use of a fairly narrow space. I think we're going to get a few more (maybe for christmas- they're a little pricy- especially if you have to pay shipping- we go to Idaho Falls fairly regularly so we buy them when we're there).

We got them here: http://www.pharaohsstorehouse.com/in_wall.asp

I play grocery store with my kids, they love it and we stock and organize the stuff every month or so. Also another good idea is to have a family home evening/family night and get the whole family involved the more the merrier! I keep the products organized like I do in coupons in the same order Paper goods/ health products/cereals/condiments/drinks etc. Although I do have a larger room that my husband built shelves in around all the walls.
