Coupon Highlight: Save $2 on any 2 Kotex

Most of the time I advocate waiting patiently for a sale prior to using a coupon. However, in a few instances, even though the coupon isn't necessarily for a free item, the value and wording on the coupon allows you to get an item for free! I put them in the front of my binder in the "Free product" section. In these cases, I redeem them and pay only tax on the item.

One of these such coupons is the Save $2 off 2 packages of Kotex pads that came in yesterday's Smart Source insert. Each and every time we get this coupon, {or the $1/1 version, it doesn't matter!} I stop by that section at Walmart and get several more packages of liners, which are priced at $1 each, for free. Remember, I get 4 papers each week, so just from my Sunday coupons, I'll get another 8 packages of free liners! The picture above features a few that I got recently. I easily have over 40 packages in my storage! They never expire and I joke with my husband that I'm saving up for when my daughter needs them! {She's almost 3. It'll be a while.}

Here is a list of other coupons that we get often that translate into FREE products! These coupons can all legitimately be used on the corresponding items and don't beep!

  • $2/2 Kotex, 10/4 SS, 11/8 SS {Use at Walmart to get free liners!}
  • $1/1 Johnson & Johnson Red Cross product, 8/2 SS {Use at Walmart or Target to get the travel sized First-Aid kits for free!}
  • $1/1 Johnson's baby product, 9/13 RP {Use at a variety of places to get the Buddies soaps for free!}
There are several that we've gotten in the past that I'll mention if we see them again in our inserts!
Know of a coupon that we have now that results in a free item? Share it here by leaving a comment!

I'm a bit confused. I thought the $2/2 Kotex is for pads - not liners. Isn't there another coupon specifically for liners $1.50/2??? I would love to get this amazing deal, but I want to be sure in case the cashier questions me.

I had a cashier tell me that you can't use the "pads" coupon on the "liners". She said they were two different products. It was really embarrasing at the front of the line with all these items I thought I could get for free. They called a manager over and said I was using the coupons illegally. Any suggestions?

Anon - I thought the same thing when I was looking at the coupons. I figured if the $2/2 didn't work I didn't need to buy them. But they did! And they have packages of 20 for $1, not just the packages of 14. But the $1.50/2 ain't too shabby either when you get the 20 packs cuz it's 1.25 cents a piece.

My J&J redcross coupons say excluding trial size so I shouldn't use them on these. And they are right, pads and linders are different products, you should use them for what they're intended.

It's up to you! If you actually go and look at all the Kotex options, this specific item is really more than a liner...albeit less than a pad, size wise. I imagine that's why the coupon works for the item. There are other liners that are more traditional, the liners coupons work on those.

I've never thought of it as inappropriate to use these coupon for this specific item. Just like using coupons for trial size items if it doesn't exclude it. It certainly wasn't the manufacturer's intention to have us use $1 off coupons for travel size, but they still work, and it's not coupon fraud by any means.

I think it's just something you have to decide for yourself.

Every time I see the $1 off any Tide coupon, I wonder if I should try to get more travel sized packets. The coupon doesn't work on them though, so I'd rather avoid the hassle.
