Emergency Essentials generously provided my family with a kit to review. The items came neatly laid out in a box, ready for our family to assemble in the 2 back packs that were also provided.

At first I was overwhelmed with simply how we should organize it all. I am not a preparedness expert! However, my husband and I started discussing what items we felt we'd most likely need to use first and where we thought we should store it. That's when it hit me: they send it to you that way for a reason, to instigate conversation! Smart.

We were able to sort through all 60+ items and develop a simple plan. We split our items into the 2 packs based on how often they needed to be rotated. Items like toilet paper, emergency sleeping bags and the AM/FM radio went into the larger pack while the food, water and other items that needed to be rotated and replaced every few years, went into the other pack. We found a place in our front coat closet to store the kit, which is fantastic as it's easily accessible.

While the kit is extensive, it obviously doesn't provide everything my family needs for 72 hours- we have three kids!
