My Grocery Run: Saved 50%

Pin It
I did a quick run to Rite Aid and Smith's last night. I didn't have much on my list, but I had a few coupons I needed to use before they expired, so I went. {I can't pass up the opportunity to get free chocolate milk & Oreos!}
Before discounts and coupons, the above items would have cost me $49.06.
However, I paid only $24.32, which reflects a 50% savings.

RiteAid was out of mostly everything I wanted, which was somewhat disappointing. I did manage to get a rain check for the Kashi cereal though. I'm planning on pairing the BOGO sale with 3 free Kashi product coupons I have to get 6 boxes of Kashi cereal all for FREE! I received the free product coupons from Vocal Point and from being a member of the Kashi community here. {By the way- you can still get a free Kashi sample at that same link- sign up for the community while you're at it!}

RiteAid did have Stephens Hot chocolate marked down to $1.98 though, which is a great deal!

You can see details for my Smith's trip here. I bought several items on markdown and even got my FREE Reese's Peanut Butter cup! There was a small display of King Sized candy bars by the checkout lines with coupons for a FREE 20-oz Coke product, when you bought a candy bar. So I managed to get both for free! For anyone else who has won the March to Savings game, the prize just gets taken right off after you scan your Fresh Values card! So I used my $5 credit last night as well. Remember, you can play the game every day in March!

Overall, I was pleased with my trip. I didn't have a long list of items I wanted to get, or a ton of coupons to use, so I was happy with 50% savings.

Have some Snickers!!! I hope you didn't pay full price for those since that was your advice at our class this week. ; ) What deal did you get on all those?

Keri- No joke- I like how half my items are candy bars! I was waiting for someone to notice that! I got the Snickers at RiteAid. They're on sale for .50 each. I used the .50/2 coupon we got in the 2/21 RP. It has a really short expiration date and we LOVE Snickers! I used all 12 to get my total abover $15 so that I could use the $3/$15 coupon. (My mailman brought me a stack of RP's, so I had coupons for all 12.) My Riteaid trip worked out to be $7.42 for 30 items- 12 Snickers, 6 Nivea lip balms, 2 hot chocolates- equals about .25 each item!

Do you mean 20 items at Rite Aid? I wasn't lucky enough to get the Nivea's. Walmart was out too.

LOL- yes, 20 items. I'm tired. Average is .37 each.

Oh- and Anon- did you ask about the Nivea? My Rite Aid had TONS- however they were in several locations throughout the store. Down the lotion aisle, by the make up and up by every register!

i got an AMAZING deal at rite aid this week. 2 free boxes of kashi, 6 bottles of almost-free nature's bounty vitamins, 4-cent izze drinks (some flavors on sale for 79 cents -75 cent off printable). plus, the vitamins go toward the healthy heart rebate for a $25 RA GC.

So how do you get your mailman to give you extra RP's?

Angela- all I did was ask him what they did with any excess Red Plum packets! When he told me they threw them away, I just kindly asked if there was any way I could get a few additional ones, he obliged. I told him I use the coupons that come in them to save my family lots of money. Now he just leaves a stack on my doorstep. It's not incredibly consistent, being as our mail carrier changes, however I'll take what I can get!

I imagine just about all Utah carriers throw some away. Next time you see yours, ask if there's any way you can get additional copies!

I had never really thought about it. Thanks for the advice I will ask him - he is a great carrier!
